OK, let's complete the thoughts. Here we have the test results for the
lenses from Photodo.
We have the infamous 28-70 F2.8 L, well regarded 28-105mm, and popular
28-135mm IS lenses.
First, let me say there is no substitute for F2.8 so if you need that
aperture this is the lens for you.
But if you shoot at F8 or middle apertures, then all lenses are quite
comparable.
Of course the 28-70mm L is a tad sharper by 1-4% than the others, but again
it also has F2.8 which the others do not.
Only at 28mm is the 28-105mm about 5% sharper than the 28-135 IS, but for
those who handhold their lenses a lot, IS is invaluable and I would gladly
give up the 5% to be able to shoot at 1/15 seconds without a tripod. Also,
I have 135mm which is a nice portrait length for photographs.
