It's a fine portrait lens.  It's biggest drawback is
that it's a bit heavy if you're doing hand held work,
but that doesn't matter on a tripod.  You can't get
quite as shallow DOF at equivilent focal lengths, of
course, but if you noramlly stop down a little that
doesn't matter either.

Probably the biggest plus is that, if you've got the
working room, you can get really shallow DOF at longer
focal lengths.  you've also got the 135mm portrait
lens covered, which is really nice for tight head shots.
