>Ring Flash for Portraits?

The same question crossed my mind a couple of times.

Knowing that the closer the flash is from the lens-fp axis, the stronger the
red-eye effect I kept on wondering what will be the result with such a ring
flash? Martian eyes?

I read once in a mag (PP) that using a ring flash you obtain a 'halo' arround
your model. They had an example: it is like a soft shadow all arround the
subject. The light falls quite nice on the face with no strong shadows. The
model had a perfect make-up though!.

Sometime ago I followed a thread about Ring Flash somewhere. As one would
normally expect, some were in favor, some against. Among the discussion points
that I still remember were the 'unnatural' kind of that light (surrounding
light, not found in nature...), the donut highlight on the eyes (cool or
tiring...), some of them considered it just like those Cokin effect filters: one
in your portfolio is maybe one too much.

If you try, let us know!

Greetings,

Gerard.
