Hi Severi,
The Canon 100f2.8 Macro USM does goes down to 1:1 at a focusing distance of 0.31m.
What "you are missing" is that the 100f2.8 has internal focusing with floating
elements and it's effective focal lenght at 1:1 is arround 65mm. That's why your
"numbers" don't make sense.
It's a beautiful lens (as a performer I mean :-) and I 'd recommend it without
doubt.
Nevertheless, those numbers do apply to the 100f2.0
