The width of the film is 35mm. Not just the picture area, but the whole
width to the edges outside the perforations. I think this is how they
describe the size of movie film, which is what 35mm was originally
designed for.
That is probably also true for 120 film--it is probably 6cm to the
edges. Not sure on this one though
