After much thought I think I may be trying to compromise too much. As 70% of of my shots will be of people, I should maybe get 75 - 300 IS USM and treat my equestrian problem as a separate issue. After all if I'm using 28 - 135 IS USM for weddings the shots from 75 - 300 IS USM should show the same general characteristics with regard to bokeh and contrast?
