I just got the 300/2.8, and it is great. But for your uses, it seems a
little heavy and a little long. However, if your definitely needing a
300, the 300/4 IS should be a better choice for this. For one thing,
you'll be able to carry it without your shoulder falling off. It is a
great lens.
