(From Canon U.S.A., Inc.'s CPS Update, Vol. 1 No. 1 March 1997) SPECIAL CUSTOM FUNCTION Add an extra Custom Function to your EOS-1N or EOS-1N RS 1. WHAT IS SCF? The Special Custom Function (SCF) is an additional custom function for the EOS-1N and EOS-1N RS. It does not replace any of the cameras' existing custom functions. At the present time, we offer a choice of 19 SCF options (17 for the EOS-1N and 14 for the EOS-1N RS, with 12 functions in common for both cameras). The customer may select any one (but only one) of these Special Custom Functions. The selected Special Custom Function can only be installed by Canon Professional Services technicians, and once installed it cannot be changed by the customer. Please review the following information for a description of each SCF. 2. WHERE CAN YOU GET IT? In the U.S.A., the Special Custom Function (SCF) will be available exclusively at the following Canon Factory Service Centers: Canon U.S.A., Inc. Canon U.S.A., Inc. Factory Service Center Factory Service Center 100 Jamesburg Rd. 15955 Alton Parkway Jamesburg, NJ 08831 Irvine, CA 92618 3. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? US$250.00. There is a 20% discount for CPS members in good standing($200.00). All orders require an additional flat rate for shipping, and add applicable state sales tax. 4. WHO CAN PURCHASE THE SPECIAL CUSTOM FUNCTION (SCF)? It is available to all USA-resident EOS-1N and EOS-1N RS owners for the service term of this model. However, current Canon U.S.A., Inc. CPS (Canon Professional Services) members will receive priority service. CHOOSE YOUR EOS-1N OR EOS-1N RS SPECIAL CUSTOM FUNCTION FROM THIS LIST SPECIAL CUSTOM FUNCTION 01 (SCF-01) Prevents shutter release if film is not loaded. If the camera back is closed and film has not been loaded, pressing the shutter button will not release the shutter. This eliminates the risk of shooting with an empty camera. (Not available for EOS-1N RS) SPECIAL CUSTOM FUNCTION 02 (SCF-02) Changes the default camera settings. You can set your own default selections for the AF mode, AE mode and film transport mode, overriding the default settings chosen by Canon. The default settings for Custom Functions (usually 0) can also be changed - when the "Clear" button is pressed in the Custom Function Set mode, the applicable Custom Functions are changed to the new settings. (Available for both EOS-1N & EOS-1N RS.) SPECIAL CUSTOM FUNCTION 03 (SCF-03) Switches off metering timer. When you partially depress the shutter button, and then let go, the metering normally remains active for about 6 seconds. With this Custom Function, the metering switches off immediately, conserving battery power. (This is the same as CF-13 on the EOS A2/A2E camera. Available for both EOS-1N & EOS-1N RS.) SPECIAL CUSTOM FUNCTION 04 (SCF-04) Switches between focusing points. When the shutter button is partially depressed, pressing the focusing point selector toggles between the camera- selected focusing point and the center focusing point. This means that the active focusing point can be changed without interrupting the shooting. (Available for both EOS-1N & EOS-1N RS.) SPECIAL CUSTOM FUNCTION 05 (SCF-05) Illuminates the active focusing point. When the shutter button is partially depressed, the focusing point lights up so that you can see which focusing point is active. However, this SCF can only be used with manual exposure (the illuminated focusing point can affect automatic metering in low light). Other conditions also apply to this SCF. (Available for both EOS-1N & EOS-1N RS.) SPECIAL CUSTOM FUNCTION 06 (SCF-06) Switches focusing point selection to automatic. When Custom Function 11-2 is being used (AF focusing point user-selected with Quick Control Dial), pressing the focusing point selector while the shutter button is partially depressed will switch the focusing point selection mode to automatic. This is useful for sports photographers who find their middle distance subject suddenly moves closer and fills the frame. (Available for both EOS-1N & EOS-1N RS.) SPECIAL CUSTOM FUNCTION 07 (SCF-07) Allows Quick Control Dial to set focusing point mode. The focusing point selection mode can be toggled between manual and automatic using the Quick Control Dial instead of the Main Dial. (Not available for EOS-1N RS.) SPECIAL CUSTOM FUNCTION 08 (SCF-08) Enables continuous shooting with AEB. With auto exposure bracketing (AEB), shooting normally stops after the three frames are exposed, even if you continue to hold the shutter release down. With this SCF, sets of AEB frames are exposed, one after the other, for as long as you press the shutter button (or until the film runs out). The exposure is metered at the start of each new set. (Available for both EOS-1N & EOS-1N RS.) SPECIAL CUSTOM FUNCTION 09 (SCF-09) Limits AEB to two frames. Automatic exposure bracketing is terminated after two exposures. The standard Custom Function 9 can still be used to change the bracketing sequence. (Available for both EOS-1N & EOS-1N RS.) SPECIAL CUSTOM FUNCTION 10 (SCF-10) Allows continuous AEB with self timer and mirror lock. Normally, when the self timer and mirror lockup have been set (CF 12 set to 1), you have to press the shutter button three times to expose the three AEB frames. This SCF allows the three frames to be exposed continuously with one press of the shutter button. (Not applicable to EOS-1N RS.) SPECIAL CUSTOM FUNCTION 11 (SCF-11) Multiple exposure setting is not canceled. A multiple exposure setting is normally canceled at the end of its sequence. This SCF makes it easier to shoot further multiple exposure sequences. (Available for both EOS-1N & EOS-1N RS.) SPECIAL CUSTOM FUNCTION 12 (SCF-12) Film advances only after shutter button is released. After a picture is taken during single-frame shooting, the film advances only after pressure is taken off the shutter release button. This means that the noise of the film advance can be delayed to avoid disturbing the subject (such as a golf player in mid-swing). (Available for both EOS-1N & EOS-1N RS.) SPECIAL CUSTOM FUNCTION 13 (SCF-13) Warns of low frame count. When the number of exposures available is less than 9, the remaining frame counter in the viewfinder blinks. This gives a clear warning that you are approaching the end of the film. (Available for both EOS-1N & EOS-1N RS.) SPECIAL CUSTOM FUNCTION 14 (SCF-14) Film rewinding is indicated in the viewfinder. The viewfinder's focusing points blink sequentially during film rewind. This is useful in noisy environments, when the film rewind sound cannot be heard. (Available for both EOS-1N & EOS-1N RS.) SPECIAL CUSTOM FUNCTION 15 (SCF-15) Allows film rewind mode to be changed during rewind. During rewind, pressing the film rewind button toggles between high-speed rewind and silent rewind. (Available for both EOS-1N & EOS-1N RS.) SPECIAL CUSTOM FUNCTION 16 (SCF-16) Allows FP flash with Speedlite 380EX. Provides high-speed flash synchronization (FP flash) with the Speedlite 380EX when used with manual flash exposure. (Not available for EOS-1N RS) SPECIAL CUSTOM FUNCTION 17 (SCF-17) Sets fixed flash sync speed for aperture-priority AE. Normally, when aperture-priority AE is used with flash, a slow shutter speed is often set, leading to blurred images. This SCF allows a user-selected fixed speed to be set, reducing the risk of camera shake. (This is similar to CF 9 on the EOS 5, EOS 10 and EOS RT.) (Available for both EOS-1N & EOS-1N RS.) SPECIAL CUSTOM FUNCTION 18 (SCF-18) Allows AEB in RS mode with EOS-1N RS. AEB is enabled in RS mode when aperture-priority AE is set or manual exposure is used (CF 5 must be set to 0). This allows continuous AEB shooting up to 10fps. (Not applicable to EOS-1N) SPECIAL CUSTOM FUNCTION 19 (SCF-19) Allows user-selected shooting speed with EOS-1N RS. Instead of a fixed 3fps, the Continuous Low shooting speed can be set in a range from 1.5fps to 5fps in 0.5fps steps.
