I think it is safe to say that all lenses vignette to some extent, but some do
so more than others. According to CdI, the 20-35/3.5~4.5 shows
readily-discernible vignetting ("sensible") wide open at 20, 24, and 28mm, and
slightly discernible vignetting ("peu sensible") wide open at 35mm. At f/5.6,
vignetting is slightly discernible up to 28mm, and negligible at 35mm; at f/8 it
is negligible at all focal lengths. This is without any filters.
I have used only standard B+W filters on my 20-35 and have had no problems with
the mounts intruding into the image area except for the time I didn't notice
there was already a filter on the lens (!)--stacking of filters is not advised.
Beyond this I won't comment, since I'm not prepared to run out and make
vignetting tests with my various filters. I will suggest, however, that if
you're concerned about the mount of a polarizer impinging on the image area, you
might consider the relatively new "Moose" combo filters from Hoya, which combine
a polarizer with an 81A warming filter, and are slimmer than the standard B+W
polarizers.

No; its construction is similar to that of the 28-105/3.5~4.5, and it weighs
about 340g (compared to 540g for the discontinued 20-35/2.8L).
