Dear group,
Are there any list members who had electrical problems with their EOS
Novoflex bellows?
Recently I read a thread in the German newsgroup de.rec.fotografie;
the bellows caused the camera to lock up, in a similar way as when
you mount a teleconverter without attached lens.
(the bellows can be used in two ways: with a notch-part in the
bayonet mounted, to act as a true EF lens, or with this part removed,
to act as a manual lens, to allow non-EF lenses on the other end
(otherwise it would lock up, just as with a bare teleconverter (with
or without attached manual lens (M42 mirror-lenses for example)).
The problem in this German newsgroup was diagnosed to broken
electrical wires, which are sewed into the bellows (between inner
and outer layer).
This weekend I wanted to use my bellows, and it also had this lock up
problem, and I also could diagnose non-conducting wires (about half
of the contacts).
After contacting Novoflex, they mentioned that they knew about this
problem, but it had not been a frequent one yet, maximum repair cost
DM200 (about US$75), depending on age of the bellows (cq warranty).
Repair also means an improved bellows construction, which IMNSHO
means that earlier bellows have a potential defect, which should
extend warranty.
The German thread/diagnose/solution suggested that someone had seen
it before, and I now wonder how many more owners have faced this
problem.
Anyone having (had) the same problem, or know about someone who had,
please step forward, so that I can contest the possible repair bill....;))
