Forget A-TTL, you can use plain TTL with excellent results. In my
opinion it's better than E-TTL, since there's no pre-flash. the Ex flashes
use TTL in all EOS bodies that can't do E-TTL. You still get flash
compensation, but lose FEL and second curtain synch, things which I haven't
found to be a problem.
Your 380EX manual should explain all the features you will miss by not
having a type A camera with it.
