The main reason for the lugs on the lens is to support al that weight...look
at your lens mount, you see those little screws? When you have a BIG lens
on the camera if you are carrying the lens by the camera strap all that
weight is supported by those 4 little screws....good way to a) strip them
out and drop the lens to the concrete and b) warp the lens mount. One
should NEVER carry a big lens, like 300 2.8 and above by the camera strap.
