When I got my 70/200 IS on Sept 11 ( yes I have
something more pleasant to remember about that day!!)
I tried it in a wide range of combos of converters,
extension tubes and with all three of my bodies, one
of which is the original Elan (eos-100) which has a
code date of G , which makes it a 1992 build, That as
far as I know, pre-dating the A2E/eos-5 series.

The IS works, with either no-TC, a 1.4x or the 2x
Canon converters on the Elan body , as well as my 3
and 1v.

The teleconverters are both the type 1 units
(original versions)

I just retested it to confirm it still works on the
Elan with the 2x and it does so without issue.

so... you may not always want to believe everything
that Canon states (that goes for a number of things in
the manual that came with the lens as well)
