This is getting Off-Topic so thought I'd reflect that in the Subject Line.

Evrim, I guess I'm one of those quintessential Anglo-American, middle-class,
middle-aged males with shiny shoes that usually gets decent service (but I
am a soccer 'dad'). I've seen the kind of bigotry I think you're talking
about too, and have also seen companies fold in part because of pervasive
and apparently condoned snobbery on their staff's part. But since you're in
Portland, I'd make an appointment to see this "Chris'" boss (everyone has a
boss) and let them know that some of Camera World's showroom staff seriously
need a crash course in "Customer Relations 101".

And if you decide to ever go back, see Dave Legault in the showroom, he's
always given me good deals and seems to understand the concept of positive
customer interactions.

The only thing that's turned me off with Camera World is when they did away
with their free shipping and tacked a flat-rate shipping charge on most
items of around $12 or so. This effectively saw me paying more in shipping
charges on some items Camera World shipped 120 miles to me, than B&H charged
to ship the same thing about 2,000 miles. Also, CWs prices frequently seem
to be higher but if you call in an order and mention you've found a better
price, such as at B&H, it's been my experience that they'll match it.
