I believe that. Still there is the D30 to prove that
one can do it far better.

Obviously based on marketing and not usability considerations.

Because for example all custom functions are available in 
clear phrase without the need to consult the manual.

Because you just need to tick the menu button once (if
necessary with your nose) and then you are able to navigate
through the whole menu with just thumb wheel and set button.

One handed operation can save your life.

On the 1D you always need both hands and you need the manual
for the customs functions. Or a sticker somewhere on the camera.

No, but seeing the differences should make you see which 
is the better solution.
