I don't dispute that, au contraire, my approach is that wireless
flashing offers far too little benefit at far too high disadvantages
(price being just one) to really make this recommendable.

Yes. A simple battery powered strobe plus a Wein cell or similar
slave cell often does much better. Getting a flash meter and a few
cheap flashes is the much smarter idea in comparison to forking
over the money for multiple 550EXs.

No small unit does. Firing high frequency will cause thermal 
problems, though.

save yourself the money for a wireless system.
