> I had no idea that Nikon and Minolta have white lenses. I saw a Nikon
catalog and looked through it and I would have sworn that there were no
white lenses. As for Minolta, I doubt that any photographer thinks
"Minolta" when seeing a white lens, even if they do manufacture them: they
just don't have the market share.

They do make on special order apparently. The white lenses was announced
with great fanfare in their advertising in this country; this was an attempt
to counter the very visible dominance of the white Canons at sports and PJ
events. At least now when you look at all the white lenses, some lone Nikon
fan might be able to stand up and say: Hey, they COULD be Nikons you know!!
:-)
I don't know of any self respecting Nikon shooter who is actually using
them: this is just too blatant a copy of Canon's lead.

As for Minolta: I know of a few pros in this country using them. The reason
is mainly cost. At one stage their 600/4 was being sold new for a little
more than a new Canon 300/2.8L. The quality I've seen from ther long lenses
is actually pretty excellent.
