I've decided to bite the bullet and go with L glass, so I'm selling my 1.5-plus-year-old Sigma 70-200 2.8 APO EX HSM.
This lens is rated nearly as good as the Canon version (3,9 versus 4,1), at a much cheaper price. My lens is optically and mechanically excellent, having returned from Sigma service on Feb. 8, 2002. (Something had come loose inside and was making a noise. Sigma replaced a part at my expense). I have used it extensively on an EOS 3, Elan II and most recently, the D30. The focusing is nearly silent and it offers Canon-like full-time manual focusing. See: http://www.photodo.com/nav/prodindex.html The only blemish: The sparkly-black (Zen?) finish has begun to peel on one portion of the lens near the camera mount, leaving a solid black finsh. It must have rubbed against something in my bag and started the peeling. Also, the lens shade, box and caps were lost to a burglar (at least I had the lens with me). I do have the soft case and brand new tripod collar ($70...yikes!). B&H sells this lens new for $749. Please make offer. I accept PayPal. Two-day USPS Priority Mail will cost about $10, with delivery tracking/confirmation.
