(AP) - Washington

U S President George W Bush, is expected to anounce the unveiling of
the newest lens in Canon's professional-grade L-series before a joint
session of Congress, during tonight's State of the Union Address. It
had been widely speculated that Bush would focus on foreign policy and
the nation's economy.

"Not so", said White House spokesman Ari Fleischer. The release of
this new lens is so big that Marines and Special Ops forces will take
a break from their war efforts so that they too may listen in via the
Armed Forces Radio Network. According to Fleischer, the President
will speak in detail about the lens' distortion free rendering of
images. Fleischer went on to add, "...there's very little
pincushion...".

In a press release, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld wrote, "This
lens is simply huge. It takes a bigger filter than the Hubble Space
Telescope. Sources inside the Pentagon cite the anouncement as "just
what our boys need to boost morale.".

An unnamed source close to the President said there are rumors of no
more Leicas in the White House because the Elan 7 is "quiet enough".
One senior White House staff member was heard muttering, "I'm
switching from (expletive deleted) Nikon.".

The unveiling of the 24-105/2.8 has been rumored throughout the
political and photographic communities for about a week. Just last
week, Olympus halted production of all 35mm SLR equipment amid the
speculation.

No further details were available about the rest of the Canon lens
line-up.
