I could not see any retaining lugs on the lens barrel (like there are when using the Tripod Mount Ring B on a bigger lens). After your reassuring words, I think I will run the risk. So I placed an order for a "Adapter Tripod Socket" with Canon Canada Parts Desk. It is on backorder, so it might be several months before it comes in.
