If we're talking about Canon E-TTL here, I don't see how.  The metering for
both
flash and ambient is supposed to take place entirely within the
viewfinder-based
measuring system, and the actual taking image plane could be made of green
cheese (if you could figure out its DIN/ISO rating <)B^).

It is really a mystery how Canon managed to screw the p00ch with the D30
metering,
and maybe even the D60, with regard to flash exposure.  The reported
inconsistencies
sound almost like they were doing some kludgy software timing loops waiting
for
analog values to settle, and they didn't get it right for all conditions.
Whatever the
problem, unless all those D[3|6]0 owners are hallucinating, Canon owes them
a fix in firmware.
