Hi Dave, The focus recall ring is the thin one behind the focussing ring. The idea is that you can preset a focus point by turning on the focus preset switch (on the side of the lens with the icon) , focus, and press the shutter button. When you want to return to the preset focus point you simply turn the ring slightly left or right and it is done. Try it out for yourself.
