The iPod works as a back up storage device to a Powerbook but it won't 
work as remote storage because there is no software written to move 
photos from the camera (or compact flash card) to the iPod. What works 
quite well in the role you've described is the Digital Wallet, a USB 
storage device with a built in card reader. You slip the CF card into the 
Digital Wallet, it sucks the photos off the card and onto it's built in 
hard drive and then you put the card back into the camera. The Digital 
Wallet then connects to your computer via a USB cable.
