I actually used to have this lens (the 4L) and then switched to the 80-200
2.8L.

Somehow, the pictures from the 80-200 2.8L seems sharper, 'more alive'. If
you do not need very fast autofocus speed (and the 80-200 is not slow
either), then I would buy a used 80-200 2.8L over the 4L anyday. Needless to
say, I do not miss the 4L, as great a lens it was.
