EOS 540EZ output.

If I set my camera and 540EZ up for a shot, focus, flash finds it's zoom point and so on, will I get the same output from the flash buy pushing the "Pilot" button for a test as I would if I tripped the shutter at that point? Want to know for taking a reading with a flash meter.
