I am an amateur photographer that wants to get good portraits shots of my
kids as they grow.

I have an EOS Rebel 2000 with a 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 II lens. That lens has
been too dark for me to get good shots indoors, and does an OK job outside
with nice light.

What lens would you recommend for indoor/outdoor shooting? I'd like to keep
it under $550 and I live in the US.

I'd also like to be able to get nice 8x10 and larger enlargements. I am
thinking of using Fuji 160 NPS or Kodak Portra and some ILFORD for black and
white. Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance

Jerome

If you want to go to a new zoom either the 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 USM, or the 28-135 IS are good choices. The 28-105 f/3.5-4.5, there is another 28-105 but get the 3.5-4.5, is about $220US and the 28-135 IS goes for about $400US.

If you are satisfied with the lens you have now, a couple of "prime" choices would be the 85mm f/1.8 at about $330US, or the 100mm f/2 at about $380US.
