Withough fundamentally disagreeing, I want to point out that on the scanning

dedicated film scanner, but being able to do MF negs and slides would be
nice.

I have the new Epson 3200 and have found that it is quite good for my medium and large format scans, but lacking for 35mm. Or so it seems to me. I do not have a 35mm film scanner to compare it to, but all of my 35mm scans are nowhere near as pleasing as the 6x6 scans I can do.

I do have to say that the included software is trash. I spent the extra cash for VueScan and got much better results right away. Vuescan manages to eke out more dynamic range and more correct colors than the original software ever did. It was well worth the extra $80.
