Well, the viewer ends up actually downloading more with thumbnails. I
like that they can see the images without fussing and clicking, and
can scroll up and down to appreciate and compare them.

And I haven't really seen a thumbnail gallery that I really like.

I may be wrong, but anyone serious enough about viewing my photos
won't be on dialup.

On the other hand, I am trimming all my pages lately, trying to make
each page a bit smaller.

What I really hate about thumbnails is that people can too easily
click click click through your images and never really linger on them,
plus once you go to the next, the last one is no longer showing. I
myself tend to click too quickly through thumbnail galleries,
especially those with a 'next' and 'back' feature that make it too
easy to click even before the image is fully displayed. If a page of
full sized images starts to load and the first one looks good, the
chances are the person will wait to see the rest. At least I hope so.
