I've been thinking about this same thing for some time now. Unfortunately I
haven't even had the time to see if something like this would already exist.

I also like your idea of doing it in Java, because then it'll work
everywhere (well almost that is :-) ... I too have done some Java

No idea, unfortunately. But I do hope that it can be done in pure Java
without having to use the Canon libraries.

That might make some difference, as if I'm not totally incorrect, 10D makes
3 files: raw, jpeg and thumps... at least that's what I remember reading
from this list some time ago (from some mac user, I think). Anyways, the EOS
1Ds (that I've been able to load a few times) only produces 2 files: raw and
jpeg. So there is some difference in the files...
