I use a program called PIE (Picture Information Extractor) from
www.picmeta.com. It allows you to rename your files adding all types of data
from your files EXIF data.

I rename files from my two bodies appending the date & time to the front of
the filename while keeping the files original cryptic number on the back
end. My files wind up looking like 05.26.04_11.54.03_E82Cxxxx.jpg. I keep
the original filename on the end for those occasions when my 1D & 1D.2 gets
a burst that's captured in the same second.

Of course you need to synchronize the clocks in both bodies.

With it you can add date (any combination of month, day, or year), time (any
combination of hour, minute, or seconds), shutter speed, aperture, flash,
zoom & quality.

Subject: Re: EOS 10D file numbering

This is probably a very basic question, but I can't work out the
solution, so...

How do people solve the problem of identical file numbers when using
two or more digital bodies? I recently bought a second 10D and found
that both bodies often produce images with the same file numbers,
meaning that if careless when downloading the images I could
accidentally over-write some files. The only solution I've come up
with is to download the two different camera files to two separate
folders. But this is inconvenient, leaving me with two folders of raw
files instead of one. And every time I buy another digital body the
problem will get worse.

Any way I can alter the file numbers from one body so they're
completely different from the other? Any other solution? Have I
missed something obvious?

Many thanks,

Jeremy Nicholl
