I understand your position, Henry, but I've had nothing but bad quality from
Sigma: 4 Sigma products bought in the last few years; 3 of them are now
paperweights. IMO Sigma is for photographers that do a few rolls per year
and don't expect much from their equipment anyway. (that's not to say you
might not be lucky and get the odd good one slipping through the system)
BTW the end result of my flash (EF500DG) story (remember it had an out-of
the box underexposure of about 3 stops in ETTL) is that Sigma locally quoted
me R1300 ($198 at the present exhange rate) and a wait time of 3 to 4 MONTHS
to fix it (most probably because I have not bought it locally) At least with
Canon I've had my B&H international warantee honored by Canon SA in the
past. I've just asked them to send it back as-is and I'll use it on manual
only or for spare parts for my other 500DG (that one had a broken diffuser
panel and is only underexposing by 1/2 to 1 stop in ETTL) The expensive
lesson learnt: STAY AWAY FROM SIGMA!!!
