BP-511 worked just fine, I never ran out of batteries on my D60!

The grip is different because the body is smaller. The old grip would hang off the end and look stupid. They're the same batteries; technically the new ones are BP-511A, but that's just because they hold more juice then the old BP-511. They're interchangeable, and almost all of the third-party BP-511 clones hold more power then Canon's old model. They're just keeping up with the times.

- No interchangeable focusing screens
- Focusing speed is probably not a match to the EOS-3, but this is still TBD

I wouldn't be stunned to find that the 20D is faster, at least sometimes. The 1v is faster then the 3. The 7 (and 7n) have been advertised as being as fast as the 1v, at least under some specific circumstances. The 10d should have the same focusing system as the 7, and the 20d is clearly newer and better then the 10d. So, the 20d *should* focus faster then the 7, which would make it as fast or faster then the 3.

IMHO, the 20d really fills the same niche in Canon's lineup that the 5 filled in the mid-90s. It's usable as a professional camera, but it's clearly inferior to the 1 series. The 3 was always a kind of special case, it was more of a prototype for the 1v then a new model on its own :-). The only things that I miss from my 3 that aren't in the 20d are ECF, 11 focus points (I used the 11-point CF to speed up ECF and AF), FEC, multi-spot metering, and the 1-style mode buttons instead of a mode dial. Frankly, the 20's joystick probably beats ECF, and multi-spot metering isn't as needed when you have an LCD with a decent histogram. That still leaves a couple features, but I can cope. I'll probably trade my D60 in for a 20D once it starts shipping in quantity.
