Very true, however if the average size is known, I would think the actual compression may be pointless since that average can serve as a rough guide. Just look for your camera's average size - regardless of make, picture format, compression, et al, and get a rough estimate. > Besides, it doesn't mention RAW, which is another > whole topic. Nikon Same thing: regardless of the *format* of the file, if the final size is averaged out, it is not relevant as far as a rough estimate is concerned. Of course there *will* be variations in real life (e.g. due to the reasons you have pointed out.) hence "how many" will never be more definitive than - for example - either your or mine or the Sandisk PDF's estimate. On another point, the capacity of a card may go up and down, also depending on the default cluster size used by the camera when formatting the card (eg 4K, 16K, 32K etc) but that may not amount to much on just 1Gig cards. Some space is also lost to the file system (maintianing two copies of FAT with placeholders for pointers to each cluster, losing a few clusters to maintian main/subfolder directories' content, any system files kept by the camera etc.) - Harman __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
