Saw hints earlier this evening on www.dpreview.com Canon 1D/1Ds forums that
some higher grade body is getting near enough for rumours to start flowing -
but then, that site is renowned for rumours, and people having "inside"
knowledge.
In addition to digital, I've gone back to using film in my EOS3 and also in
a recently acquired Nikon F3HP.

Now, 24mm on full frame is a pretty wide view.
