Thanks for posting - quite an insight!
Reminds me of when I dropped my old Sigma 17-35 EX HSM about 3 to 4 feet
onto concrete.  Only the slightest (external) mark on the stainless steel
lens mout, but it needed a heart transplant to get it working again.  Now
the focus motor has failed again - jammed, and this time I can't remember
even touching it!
