While your plan is a good one, I think that it leaves something out.
Conventional color temp correcting filters fall on the yellow-blue color
axis. If you had fluorescents mixed in, then you'd need correction from
the green-magenta axis. I'm not sure that a color temp meter can handle
this issue, though a high-end 3 sensor color meter could.
Have you been dissatisfied with the auto-white-balance feature?
