*undesirable* to people hosting standards-compliant websites.
Exactly. As a maintainer of a few such websites, it's pretty annoying when you do everything correct, and in the process can keep the root directory clean for instance and then still get a lot of errors in the logs or have to put copies there because web browsers do the wrong thing.
There are ways around it, of course, but in the long run I think that websites not following the standards should get a bug report instead. What good are standards if they aren't used?
