I tried the following command as you said. But this also just started the
jpda which starts listening on port 8000 but not the equinox osgi jar. Nor
did I get the console of osgi

sudo java -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,address=8000,suspend=y
-Xdebug -jar org.eclipse.osgi_3.6.1.R36x_v20100806.jar -console
