Andy:

I've flown into Las Vegas a number of times from San Diego.  As for GA friendly airports, North Las Vegas was where I went in the last time and they are set up nicely.  You can get your rental car right there and it is a short drive down to the strip.  Henderson is to the south of Las Vegas and is a really nice airport too.  Boulder City is further out toward the Hoover Dam and is where I bought my Ercoupe.  They are all set up nicely for GA.  If I were coming in from the North, I'd probably fly into Henderson and let them vector me over McCarren/Las Vegas International.   You get a great view of the strip but watch out for the Stratosphere!  The controllers are very friendly and will help you.  I had one of those little brown "Flight Guides" that shows the airport diagrams and VFR routes.  The Las Vegas one shows the different arrival and departure routes through the Class B.  Having that was a big help.  I came up from the south, transitioned over Henderson and then right over the numbers of McCarren.  That set me up for a long right downwind into North Las Vegas.

I had a posting a while back about my last flight into Las Vegas over the deserts and mountains in the summer heat.  If you've never done it, expect a lot of up and down.  The posting was, "Flying the Coupe Hot and High"

Good Luck

Subject: [COUPERS-FLYIN] Las Vegas flight

----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----

Hi All...

I've just started planning a trip from the Northwest (Seattle area) to Las Vegas this summer. Are there any coupers on the list that can give any insight to the area? What nearby airports welcome little birds? On my "to do" list is a night flight.

Thanks
