Tim, I recently moved my Ercoupe from John Wayne (ties down) to Chino (hangared) to minimize the effects of moisture & salt air corrosion on the 57 year old airframe. I'd be MUCH more inclined to worry about airframe corrosion than engine corrosion, particularly given the age & AD history of the Coupe. The engine gets inspected regularly, and replaced or overhauled periodically. Internal engine corrosion would be my only concern there however, if you fly it once a week for an hour the engine internals should be OK. Next time you open your plane up for an inspection or whatever, I'd highly recommend getting it fogged or sprayed down professionally with anti-corrosion treatment every year or two to minimize the effects of corrosion. Corrosion X is one type, however I think there may be another brand that is better still. They penetrate everywhere and can be a bit messy, so I would NOT do it if you intend to have the plane repainted in the next 2 years. I'm sure someone else out there can tell you much more about lubricants that I can however, I think there are several airframe lubricants that work well (better than WD40)and are moderately priced. Aircraft Spruce has them on page 321 of their current catalog; LPS NO. 2 & LPS NO. 3. The spray cans are around $6.00. Anyway, that's my 'two cents'. I'm sure someone out there has even better recommendations. I was looking over the lubrication schedule in the "Skyport > Ercoupe Service Manual" I got with my plane. It specifies "AN-O-6a general > purpose low temperature lubricating oil" for most of the pushrods, hinges, > linkages etc... Is this a particular viscosity?
