I know they were used on some Taylorcraft and on Cessna 120/140s.  the 
shafts were smaller, but they can be bored out to fit the ercoupe 
shafts.  the plastic caps are rare as hen's teeth.  (Someone told me 
Univair has some, but they're really expensive.)  About 10 years ago 
someone fromthe West Coast Cessna 120/140 club published an article about 
how to cast your own.  You can see it here:
