Tim & Martha, Wayne & Ed had some good input, as always. I tend to agree with Greg. While not directly applicable to the Ercoupe, I think the later C-150 POH makes a really good resource to have, and I use one for my O-200 powered Coupe. It gives a fair idea what to expect for power settings and fuel burn at altitude. Time and fuel to climb is likely to be different for the Coupe (more time & fuel, although not by too much). There is a rule of thumb I've heard that says it's probably not worth climbing more than about 10 minutes for every hour you will be in the air. For a 3.2 hour flight leg, it's probably not worth spending more than 30 minutes +/- in climb unless you need to for terrain clearance. Ed & Wayne may have some comments on the 'rule of thumb' as applied to Ercoupes & cross country flight. I thank you've got the right idea. Fly high for range & terrain clearance in the mountain west, and low to enjoy the scenery over the flat lands east of the Rockies. Again, there are a lot of Ercoupers who fly east of the Rockies and have better input on that than I do. Fly safe and have fun!
