There's a specific number, I think it's 25%, of allowable increase in HP on each airframe.  Considering that many of our airplanes were certified with a 75 HP engine, that would only leave an 18.75 increase, if the 25% number is correct.  If it was certificated with a 90, then a 22.5 increase would be the number.  Putting a 125 HP engine in would probably take it out of a category that you want it to be in.

Franklin engines make a 125 hp replacement for the 0-200 engine. They say it fits in the mounts and all.  Has anyone any experience using this engine in an ercoupe?

The real question is 'why would you want to do that?' The O-200 is great, well-known, and
sturdy. Parts will probably not be a problem for quite a while. Indeed, it's more likely that
PZL (Franklin is made by them in Poland) will have a problem and stop supplying parts.

The extra power would, I guess, be good for rate of climb, but you're not going to push the
airframe much faster. And the ROC of an O-200 powered Ercoupe at full gross is perfectly
acceptable.
