[COUPERS-FLYIN] Cartoon

I was surprised to see a cartoon printed (p11 Nov 2004) in the most recent edition of Coupe Capers that I sent in years ago.  I thought it was long forgotten.  It was drawn by John McPherson and was published in his one-box “Close To Home” comic carried by quite a few US papers.

 Anyway, it’s all intended in good humor.  I thought it so; particularly as it spoofed how simple it is to fly a coupe (you know…no flaps, prop, gear, pedals …).  But when I wrote to Mr. McPherson to ask his permission to reprint it, he wrote back (saying OK) and mentioned that when it was originally published, a TWA pilot e-mailed him, irate, and said that he’d never been so offended … that it was “demeaning all pilots by insinuating that their jobs were simplistic”.

With best wishes of the season, here’s hoping all who saw this can get a chuckle out of it!  I can assure you it was not Mr. McPherson’s intention to offend.  WE know just how challenging it is to fly the coupe.
