Coupers
I just got #4 cylinder back on the plane and all buttoned down. The
exhaust valve seat and valve guide were warped and worn respectivly.
Also I put on a new set of rings. The engine has only gained 25 RPM on
static run up, but all seems well. After a twenty minute "break in" I
checked everything over and then did one circuit and checked it all
again. It was laid up for almost three weeks but we're up there with
the bald eagles once more. The weather here is about 40*F and clear as
far as you can see. A great day, I also had my test ride on my newly
restored 1950 Schwinn bike. It looks factory fresh and rides hands off,
just like the coupe! Only about a dozen old bikes left to restore. My
daily rider is a 1938 mans bike I got from the original owner and
restored to new. It fills the winter nights and helps use up all that
extra cash!.
This was my first time to pull an aircraft engine apart and I found it
not too bad to work on except for the stupid under cylinder baffles.
I'll also let you know how the front seal job works out. I shortened
the tensioner spring on the seal to make it fit better. So far, not a
drip, which it did even after a new stock seal. I smell food, got to
go, must have food.
