Steve.
I sent my cylinder to Valley Areo in Chilliwack, B.C. They supplied
valve seat, guide, rings and a few gaskets. They honed the clyinder and
installed the valve seat, guide, and ground both valves. I think it
came to a total of $423.Can. ($5.00 U.S.) If I had it done at an auto
shop they wouldn't have been able to supply the parts and may not have
been able to work at the bottom of a deep cylinder. Not only that, it
is very important that the distance from the cyl. flange to the top of
the valve is right on as there is no adjuster, only the amount the
hydraulic valve lifter can supply. By the way, there appears to be no
valve clearance until the lifter is removed and cleaned out dry. Then
you should end up with .030 to.110 inches clearance. You cannot
compress the lifter to check the clearance when it has oil in it!
Another thing I tried was to compress the rings on the piston and
install it in the cylinder, leaving the skirt of the piston out far
enough to get the wrist pin through the piston when installing it on the
con rod. It saves fiddling with ring compressors at a bad time. Don't
forget the O-ring on the bottom of the cylinder. If I can be of any
other help, let me know. I sure don't know it all, but I'm learning, I
think!
