Title: RE: [COUPERS-FLYIN] Ercoupes in rental fleets?

An interesting side note to what you've saidÂ….I am amazed at the perception people have of our Coupes.  Anytime I talk about them, people always have the belief that you can't land a Coupe in a cross wind.  I of course always set them straight.   But, I have to wonder if the KC 135 also lifts the trailing wing as it touches down and aligns itself with the runway.  Or, as I've heard on some large aircraft, do the landing gear actually turn so they're straight with the runway even though the aircraft is pointing a different direction?  Can't imagine they remain straight with the centerline of the aircraft, there'd be a phenomenal amount of force applied when it touched down if they weren't pointed down the centerline of the runway.

Hi Greg, don't know of any for rent but thought you might find this interesting. The Alaska Air National Guard keeps four Coupes in Alaska for training. Apparently the new KC 135 tanker fan engines are so close to the ground that slipping them in to a landing is not an option. As a result they use the Ercoupes to train pilots so they will get used to crabbing onto the runway. I thought that was pretty neat.Pete

Just curious...are there ANY Ercoupes or
Aircoupes still in rental fleets anywhere?

Or are they too valuable and rare to entrust
to John Q. Public?
