Well, I DID ask Syd about it and here's what he said...

Hi Kathy, 6/25
We stayed overnight in Owensboro, KY, on Sunday night, and couldn't
get out of there until about 2 pm on Monday. We waited around the FBO all
morning, and met two fellows that owned the company that makes the foam
inserts that are put into aluminum baseball bats to keep them from
vibrating when a ball is hit. We joked around and told stories for about
an hour.
One of them told us about some friends who own a chicken farm. He
said the chickens (about 25,000) got a disease which made them worthless.
They could not be sold to anyone for any purpose, and they were eating
food. They had to dispose of them quickly. So they went to one of those
rental places and rented a chipper, the kind that chips tree branches, and
brought it back to the farm and threw the live chickens in it. He said
the PETA people got wind of it and came out, and were not very happy. He
said it took three days to do the whole job, and then they brought the
chipper back to the rental place. What a yuckky story, but funny in a
peculiar way. Can you imagine the mess?
We quit eating chicken for a few days after that. Brad says he will
not eat chicken nuggets for a long, long time. Syd
