Tom, Ed, List.

I think there is a big virus attack going on since yesterday afternoon.
I got an e-mail every minute at times. I tracked down the path on some of them and they seem to originated from the AOL & Earthlink networks.
A good place to start such an attack. I hope the AOL guys have been warned and eliminated the source.

Running Virus software on your own machine would not stop these mails I guess, but maybe avoid getting your machine infected. Maybe. If the virus is new it might not be detected and from what I saw in the transcripts of these virus laden mails, that exactly happened on all the mail hubs. The postmaster software scanned it and let it trough....

How annoying . So guys, don't open any attachments on emails from an unknown sender, Always suspect a Virus in such cases.

I keep erasing.

Subject: [COUPERS-FLYIN] Virus infested computer is on this list

----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----

It’s likely that the computer of one of our list members is virus infected.  Since yesterday afternoon, I’ve received over a hundred e-mails containing the virus.

Modern viruses often “spoof” the sender’s name and lie about who has sent it.  This makes it hard to track down the source.  However, in this case, I’ve found Coupe list e-mail addresses on a couple of the viruses.  That at least makes it likely that the infected computer belongs to one of our members.

Would all of you please check out your systems?  I hate to be an advertisement for the antivirus companies but you really should have an antivirus program if you participate in e-mail, especially e-mail lists.  Personally, I like Norton Antivirus since it works very well and automatically updates itself so well.

Besides you having an antivirus program, the program won’t be effective without UP-TO-DATE antivirus signatures. (That’s why I like Norton’s life update so well but the other good programs should auto-update, too.)

Would all of you with antivirus programs please update your signatures and run a full virus scan on your system?  Would those of you without any antivirus software (running naked) please get some?

Thanks, all.
