It sounds like adding the spacers to the main landing gear, at the top of the piston will be just about right. These spacers are available from Skyport for about $25. You will need to fill out a 337, but Skyport will most likely include a sample for you.
My experience has been that when the tail height is 68 or 69 inches, installing the spacers works out great.
I would not recommend using a Belleville spring to take the place of the spacer. However, the Belleville springs do provide a much better cushion (shock absorbing) for landing, taking off, or even just taxing.
